It's the county seat for Hills County, Hillsboro main Post Office is as flashy as the courthouse. Now the public library.
In the town of Eastland, Texas, they had a Postmistress instead of a Postmaster. Marene J. Jonson collecteted stamps and "on her own time" created the Stamp Window preserved behind glass in the Post office lobby.
Postmistress Johnson saw it as a "gift to those interested in history and geography through philatey." She worked on it from 1957 till finishing in 1968 and used 11,217 stamps.
On the wall next to the Stamp Window is a mural of Native Americans hunting Buffalos by Suzanne Scheuer who painted it in San Francisco and mailed it to Eastland where they had a wallpaper hanger place it above the postmaster door in 1938.
In East Texas the "tomato capital" of Texas the town of Jacksonville's 1933 main post office is all dressed up. Now the Landmark Event Center with a spa and catering to weddings, banquets, reunions and holiday parties. They removed all the mail boxes and turned them into etched windows.Texas Senator Morris Sheppard served from 1913 to his death in 1941. Known as "King of Pork," he was able to get added funds to dress-up it up with some marble inside (stairs, columns) and outside a post office in the booming East Texas oilfield.
